Fatal motor vehicle accident kills one, injures another

Car accidents are always at least an inconvenience, but when the accident proves fatal, the impact can be devastating. For two families, a recent fatal motor vehicle accident in Vancouver has changed their lives forever.

The accident occurred on June 3. A 42-year-old woman driving a car and a man driving a camper collided head on Lougheed Highway and Sterling Road near Deroche. The woman died at the scene of the accident, while the man was airlifted to hospital. There have been no updates on the man's condition.

The highway was closed to traffic for several hours so the RCMP reconstruction team could examine the scene. Once that was completed, it took time to clear the debris from the accident. Once the RCMP has finished its investigation, any citations that are warranted will be given out at that time.

Establishing fault in an accident such as this is important for several reasons. If one of the drivers is found to be at fault and therefore caused the accident, the injured party has the option to pursue damages for medical bills, lost wages from work, mental distress, and in the case of the deceased woman, final expenses. If both parties are found at fault, then they could seek damages from each other.

When a person or a family finds itself in this tragic position, it is a good idea to seek the advice of a legal professional that is well-versed in these areas. Getting solid advice can help a family determine the best steps for moving forward from such a life-altering experience.
