Car accidents: 1 dead in British Columbia

A collision in Maple Ridge has left one person dead and several others injured, according to local police. British Columbia RCMP, who typically investigate car accidents of this type, were on the scene to report the fatality. They have not filed charges against anyone involved in the crash at this time and are still investigating the cause of the accident.

According to their reports, two SUVs collided head-on around 4:30 p.m. the evening of Nov. 22. They were traveling in opposite directions on Golden Ears Way at the time of the crash. The force of the impact killed one man, who was reported dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel. His identity was not released in this report.

The other passengers were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non life-threatening. Their identities and conditions are unknown at this time. As of this report, British Columbia authorities have ruled out alcohol as a possible cause for the tragic crash, but they are investigating other potential contributors, including reckless driving and negligence.

Car accidents of this type often require stringent investigation in order to determine their causes. In this case, British Columbia RCMP will continue to investigate until they've determined which driver or drivers were materially responsible for the crash. When they do, they may file criminal charges against one or both individuals. Separately, the family of the deceased and the injured parties are entitled to file wrongful death and/or personal injury lawsuits in civil court. Police evidence pertaining to material contribution to the crash will be invaluable in arguing successfully for damages to be awarded to the victims and their families.
