What are the symptoms of whiplash?

Our personal injury lawyers can help you deal with whiplash and other neck injury claims. Some symptoms of whiplash include:

  • Stiffness in the back or neck
  • Headaches
  • Pain and soreness

  • Dizziness
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Difficulty chewing and swallowing

Whiplash can be diagnosed through X-rays, MRIs and CT scans. You may be given physiotherapy, painkillers or chiropractic care to deal with it. If untreated, whiplash can make other healing take much longer.

It’s important to keep accurate records of your physical symptoms, as whiplash can sometimes be misdiagnosed when what you actually have is a more serious neck or spinal injury.

It’s also important to not rush toward a whiplash settlement. Most people assume whiplash will resolve itself and may not realize until after the settlement that their whiplash symptoms are persisting, but that they now have no ability to claim for them.

Often, particularly if you also suffer broken bones and other serious injuries in the accident, the pain of whiplash may not be felt right away — or it may be dismissed as something relatively minor that will clear up quickly.
